Hi Everyone! How are you guys? I am doing well not too bad just about to bring my day to a close but before I do just that, I wanted to write a post! So, since I have started blogging I have not written much that falls under my “beauty & fashion” header so today, I felt that I would do just that!
Before I jump into writing in details I wanted to mention something! I received a pretty exciting notification on WordPress and it was a congratulations message on receiving my first 100 likes on my blog! That really brought a huge smile to my face and reassured me that I am on track to something great and there are people who truly like and appreciate my posts, which is so crazy awesome cool to me! I am glad that I have taken this step to pursue blogging and can’t wait to see where it leads from here. I would like to thank everyone that has taken the time out of their day to check out my blog and read through my posts! It really means a lot to me! I will for sure write a more detailed post expressing my gratitude but I could not help but include a little something
something here as I recently seen this notification and could not wait to say thanks! So…THANK YOU =D Let’s check out some products that make me up now!
Makeup! What a great thing right? I have always enjoyed playing around with makeup and if you have read my previous posts you may already know that I enjoyed it so much that I was even thinking of making it a profession of my mine…but that did not go as planned! Nevertheless, to this day I still really love and adore makeup, I love checking out new products, I love watching various makeup tutorials (I love Carli Bybel!), and I do enjoy using it just not on a daily basis mainly due to lack of time. Thoughts still cross my mind in regards to getting into makeup more seriously as I feel that once I really get the hang of it, that it would be something I truly love but! That is still a debate going on…So while that happens! My makeup collection continues to increase bit by bit and I wanted to share some of my favorite products that I use weekly!
For a very long time, my makeup routine was very…simple? I would stick to only doing eyeliner, mascara, and blush but! As time went on I started thinking…“If I want to do other people’s makeup for a living I should probably start trying to use some more makeup on myself” and other than just that reason my curiosity also grew more and more as I started seeing how much different things could be accomplished with makeup! Makeup has totally evolved within the past 2 years, there is something for everyone these days and that is great! So now when I get ready to go out, depending where I am going but most times to keep up my practice I will throw on some primer, colour corrector/concealer, foundation, setting spray, eyeliner, mascara, blush, highlight…the full works almost…I have not really ventured into eyeshadow on myself so far and lipstick/lip colour is something I also do not use frequently yet! I have quite a ton of it =) With that said! Here are the products I scramble for when it is time to Make me up!
**Warning, Yes, I love makeup but I am not a licensed makeup specialist so I may say some weird things or do somethings that is not cosmetically correct but! Just being honest =) Also quick sorry for the condition of some of my products! I have had some for a little while**
Primers – So, I use a combination of two primers at a time! Not sure if doubling up on it really makes a big difference or not, but in my head, I feel that it may so that is what I do and most times I just cannot say no to one hehe. I also appreciate a good eye primer during the warmer seasons as I do tend to get oil quite fast which we all know that can lead to a makeup disaster!
Primer number 1 – Smashbox Photo Finish Primer – I really enjoy this primer, it has a very smooth and silky consistency which feels good on the skin! I do also feel that it really does absorb into the pores which allows them to appear smaller
Primer number 2 – Maybelline Master Prime Facestudio Blur + Illuminate – This primer is really great! I love pairing it with the above primer because it has a nice subtle shimmer that I feel enhances my foundation. This is also a drugstore product so it is very affordable and the quantity you receive lasts a good while!
Eye Primer – Vasanti All Star 2 in 1 Face + Eye Primer – So I do not use eye primer all the time especially during the colder months however, in summer it is a must for me! I have oily skin and the heat in the summer makes it 10 times worse so I really need to use a product that ensures my eyeliner will last from morning to night. Now, this is a face + eye primer but it is quite tacky which is a good thing but I do not enjoy the feel of that all over my face therefore I primarily use it as an eye primer. Let me tell you guys! I have been using this product for maybe 3-4 years now and it works like a charm! My eyeliner use to bleed and run after hours of wear but with this primer it stays put! I love this product and recommend it strongly to anyone with oily eyelids/skin and individuals living in hot climate areas.
Colour Corrector/Concealer – So, I know there is a difference in these two but I honestly do not really use a concealer so to speak but I will use a colour corrector in place of a concealer. I have been meaning to try the Urban Decay – Born this Way Concealer but! I just have not picked one up as yet. Other concealers that I have used thus far I find as my day goes the areas that I have applied concealer starts to look a bit pale and dry? Has anyone else experienced this and know a quick fix? Perhaps it is just the type of concealers I have tried but for that reason I do stay away from them and revert to a good colour corrector.
Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Corrector – I love this product! I have been using it for a while now and I really like how the product blends into the skin. So, referring back to what I said above about concealers leaving pale/dry patches on my face, this definitely does NOT happen with this product and I think that is why I love it so much! The shade that I get has a bit of an orangish undertone which works well with my complexion. If I had to have any complaints about this product it may just be the price…It is a bit costly retailing at about $50.00 (Canadian dollars) at Sephora but! I am willing to pay that price as I do feel that it works well for me and! It also lasts quite a long time so it is not something that needs to be purchased often =)
Foundations – I have tried a few different foundations and there are specifically three that I have been loving in my collection! I always resort back to these ones, I feel that they each work so great and either or can really be used on a daily basis in my opinion. Now they do all vary in price so I will begin with my most affordable option which I would say I use the most out of all!
Maybelline FIT ME Foundation – This foundation is really great! Out of the three listed here, I would say this is usually the first foundation I reach for as it provides good coverage and is reasonably priced so using it often won’t break the bank! This foundation claims to hydrate and smooth which I would say is true, it gives you a nice glowy and dewy look after application.
My Shade – 355 “Coconut”
Urban Decay Naked Foundation – Now we are stepping up a little in price but I would say this is also a very good quality foundation. It is very light and does not feel heavy on the skin yet provides good coverage which can be built up to your liking. I find that when I do wear this foundation that my skin does not get oily as quickly compared to when I wear the other two foundations listed here which I do enjoy.
My Shade – 9.0 Medium-dark shade with gold undertones
Dior Airflash – Lastly, we have the Airflash foundation by Dior. So, prior to purchasing this foundation, I did my research and read a lot of mixed reviews. Now this is a fairly pricey foundation but I must say I do love! How this foundation looks on my skin. It really does give you a flawless radiant appearance and it can be worked up to very full coverage if required while still feeling light. The only complaint I would say with this foundation or more so how the product is packaged would be that spray foundations can be easily wasted if applied any old way. I personally like spraying a small amount on the back of my hand and applying with a brush then going over with a beauty blender. If you apply it directly to a beauty blender as you would with many other foundations, product will be easily absorbed into the beauty blender causing you to need that many more sprits.
My Shade – 600 “Mocha”
Highlighter – So guys, moving on to highlighter! This is something I honestly do not use on an everyday basis, I would love to as I think it looks beautiful on girls but I do not think I have mastered the art of putting it on correctly as yet! With that said, I do find myself testing it out much more in the summer when I want that extra glow and dewy look! Although it is not a product I use often, I do still have a few in my collection but only one that I truly love on my complexation!
Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder – GUYS! This highlighter is beautiful! It screams goldish, bronzy goddess, perfect for summer! I have tried a few different types of highlight and for some reason majority of them leave me with a pale/dry patch…They stand out but not in a good way but! Fortunately, I came across this one and I do love it!
My Shade – “Bronze Glow”
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid Highlighter – So I know, I was going to only talk about one highlighter which yes, I do mainly want to point to the Bobbi Brown highlighter but I just wanted to quickly mention this one as well. This product is beautiful, it gives you such a shimmery look after application but! I feel like it is too much for the face at least for me. I also feel that this product on my face feels heavy when combined with foundation and increase the oiliness on my skin however, this product I find is great to be used on your body. I like using this also in the summer but on the back of my legs, my collar bone, and shoulders. It looks very nice when the sun hits you and gives you a beachy glowing appearance.
My Shade – “Topaz” – Golden Brown pearl
Setting Powders – Powders are essential while doing makeup as it keeps all of your hard work in place and avoids creasing of makeup. I usually go in very lightly all over my face with whatever powder I choose but do put a little extra in my t-zone area to help eliminate build up of oils and creasing as that is my problem area. Here are my go to powders!
Maybelline FIT ME Set + Smooth Powder – Just as I adore the FIT ME foundation, I love the FIT ME powder as well! Both combined go well together and do not leave the face looking cakey or dry. Again, this product is very affordable and gets the job done!
My Shade – 355 “Coconut”
Dior Airflash Matte Touch – Yes! I do like pairing my foundations to my powders and keeping the brands together hehe =) This powder is amazing! Like the foundation, it is also in a spray format which is super cool to see the first few times, you spray in on your hand and instantly it dries into a powder. I find this works very well at keeping oils away and totally enhances the look of any foundation used beneath.
My Shade – This product comes in a generic shade
Eyeliner – So moving onto my absolute favorite part to makeup, eyeliner! Eyeliner has always been my go to makeup must have! Ever since I was a young teenager, it had been the one product I believe I have mastered well, at least in the way I like to wear it. I personally like wearing thicker eyeliner as I feel it gives my eyes more dimension and adds a sultry look! To me, eyeliner brings me to life!
Maybelline Eyestudio – I LOVE THIS EYELINER SO MUCH!!!!!!!! I have been using this eyeliner for years now and it has not once ever let me down! I have gone through using pencil eyeliners, to liquids, to gel, to gel pencils, to powder, etc. You name it, I have tried it! I feel that this product goes on so smoothly and effortlessly but! It does not wear off easily throughout the day which I love. I have always! Loved gel eyeliners and if I had to pick from gel, pencil, or liquid I would have to say gel over anything! If you have not tried this as yet, I strongly recommend it!
My Shade – Blackest Black
Palladio Liquid Eyeliner – This is again, an oldie but a goodie in my books! So, I really have a thing for thick and dark eyeliner, so for a very long time I have had the habit of first lining my eyes with gel but! Going over it with a good liquid liner to ensure it really stands out and lasts all day. Now, I have tried using various liquid eyeliners over my gel liner and many seem to peel as the day goes removing even the gel layer below which is not cool. With this liner, I have never had that issue, it goes on perfectly and stays that way until you remove it.
My Shade – Black
Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon – I have recently started using this product but I do believe I use to use it a while ago before I became obsessed with gel pot liners. I usually line my waterline with the gel liner mentioned above but as of recent I have been using this gel eye crayon and I must say I like the look. This goes on easily but to me it does bleed down past your waterline throughout the day so you have to be on the look out for black rings! I feel like this is a good product to use if going out for a couple of hours but not ideal for morning to night in my opinion.
My Shade – 42 Black
Setting Spray – Woahoo! SO Basically, my last step is my setting spray. Now, I do not want to say much here as I am not 100% sure how well this works in comparison to not using a setting spray. Whether I use one or not, throughout my day as I said my skin is guaranteed to become oil which allows makeup to shift a bit! I am not one to walk around with this stuff in my bag so I don’t have much experience with resetting throughout my day but! The initial sprits that I do does feel good and the skin. I will not get into much details for this category just for the same reasons stated above and lack of experimentation but I do use the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water to complete my looks!
So, guys! I have put you through a very lengthy read here, I hope you have stuck it out with me and have found some great products you want to try! I know I have left out details in regards to products I use for my brows and the brand of blush I use but! That is due to not having appropriate photos of those products currently! Basically, I use MAC products for both my brows and blush. I simply use a dark brown eyeshadow colour to fill in my brows lightly and for blush I use a mixture of three shades. If you would like to know more about these, please let me know and I will make it my duty to get this information! Also, brushes! I do not have much knowledge on the types of brushes I use but I will leave a photo of it below so you can get an idea, again if any questions about this let me know! Please leave me a note below or message me directly! And guys please share some of your favs with me as I would love to hear =)
I hope you enjoyed this and got to know more about some products you may have been curious about
Goodnight!!!!! Until the next Lifestyleforyoureyes Beauty Edition Post!
